TALAVERA

At the end of the 16th century, the fine Spanish art of glazing fire baked clay came to Mexico, which already had a long history of pottery making by its natives. The foreign influence on local artisans resulted in exquisite new styles, including the Talavera pottery of Puebla, Mexico.  Talavera pottery shows the influence not only of Spain, but also China, Italy, Arabia and Mexico itself. The resulting style is a true work of art produced in the same way that was done by the first Talavera potters in Puebla 400 years ago.

Talavera today is found all over the Southwest and is considered part of the Southwest decor.

PUNCHED TIN

Punched tin is a traditional art that can be seen in many places throughout the Southwest.  An old tin can or a sheet of tin is first molded into a shape and then punched with a sharp object to produce a design.  These shapes with designs were then used not only for utilitarian purposes, but for decoration as well.

ROCKS, GEMS & MINERALS

We have a gold prospector in our family who has loved rocks since he could walk!  Throughout his wanderings he is always finding some really interesting -- and sometimes very valuable -- pieces!  If you're a rockhound or an artist interested in stones for your work, you've got to check out these finds!

NAVAJO FOLK ART

Hand-carved Navajo folk art expresses how the Navajo view their world and the people, animals, and spirits in it.  Colorful and whimsical, they are a great reminder of the culture that is the Navajo people.
